Creole Nature Trail

After refuge facilities reopen, one official Creole Nature Trail branch fills Saturday. The current closure shifts that day to Port Wonder, downtown galleries, Prien Lake Park, or the casino resorts.

One full trail or resort day

Do not combine both official trail branches unless ferry status, refuge access, weather, and nearly four hours of driving all support the full circuit.

Keep Friday inside the city: settle into one hotel, eat at Steamboat Bill's or another chosen restaurant, and save the long drive for daylight.

West-side marsh and Gulf beach—or a day in Lake Charles.

The current severe-weather announcement closes Southwest Louisiana National Wildlife Refuge Complex facilities. Until that notice is removed, spend Saturday at Port Wonder, downtown galleries, Prien Lake Park, or the casino resorts instead of driving toward a closed refuge.

Main activity

Port Wonder and downtown galleries while refuges are closed.

Visit the Children's Museum or Nature and Science Center at Port Wonder, then continue to 1911 Historic City Hall and the Charpentier Historic District. Save Wetland Walkway, Blue Goose Trail, and Holly Beach for a weekend after the closure notice is removed.

Keep the final morning inside the city instead of starting another Cameron Parish route.
